Praise God

Cael is sleeping - they have him in an induced coma. The only visible signs of the accident are on his face - puffy eyes - otherwise not a bruise or broken bone on his body! Praise God and thank you for your prayers!

We went to Iowa City hospital to see Cael today. He is doinng great! You can check out his progress on his CarePage www.carepages.com/carepages/caelwhitespage

I never in a million years thought I would be blogging a post like this...
Cael James was in an atv accident here on the farm on Sunday afternoon. He was airlifted to Iowa City and has since made much progress. I ask you to pray for our little guy...pray that his lungs will heal and that he will be protected from infection. Pray that there will be no brain damage. Pray for his parents and his sister. Pray for our family. Praise God for what He has done so far. He is the great Physician.

For more info on Cael you can visit the Carepage his mommy has set up. Please pass his story on to your friends and family. The more we pray the more God will know. www.carepages.com/carepages/caelwhitespage
You may be asked to create a user ID and password. Cody has also started a group called praying for cael on Facebook.com

Conner and Wyatt were also on the ranger with Cael (the boys I babysit). Conner has a broken leg. Wyatt is sufferring extreme mental distress. Please lift them up in your prayers as well.

nervous mommy

I get so nervous when Cody shows - this show was the hardest on me yet! He got a blue ribbon in his class! We are so proud of him!
so far, khyle placed 7th in his class - the judge complimented him on his fitting job - in non-farmer talk that means the steer's hair was done real nice! cody hopefully will show by 2 - this is a long day!
am nervously waiting for cody to show...getting closer...he is having a great time in Nebraska! They went to see Larry the Cable Guy in concert last night. He has been texting me all morning and I am watching all of the shows online at www.dvauction.com you'll have to create an account to watch - it's easy, and then click on the Aksarben beef show. it's live camera. there is only sound when the judge is announcing

jaiden is still very ill - she has an intestinal infection. I am so worried about her staying hydrated. She did finally eat a little this morning. She is nursing, but throwing up a lot. She has had a few sips of water. Doctor said to push as many fluids through her today as I can and then tomorrow she can have pepto bismal if she still has diarrhea - we need to get the infection out first. I will be bleaching all of the hard floors, shampooing carpets, spraying lysol, etc. Chore boots will stay outside from now on - gloves will be worn in the barn and hands will be washed, washed, washed. Also, the guys will change clothes in the garage and shower immediately - we are so sad that our baby is sick!

Jaima is missing her DeeDee (Cody) - I am, too - but am proud! Will keep you updated!

oh - conner and wyatt are here for the weekend - their dad went out of town - wyatt wants to ride in the combine!

I was up most of the night with Jaiden - she woke with a fever around midnite - 103 - so I gave her tylenol and tried to make her comfortable - I forgot what it is like to cradle a hot, confused little baby in my arms all night! I nursed her as she wanted comfort. This morning she tried to smile - poor thing - even in her discomfort her happy personality shone through! We are going to the doctor at 11:20 because her temp is higher in her right ear which might indicate and ear infection. She also has diarrhea and a stuffed up nose - as well as 4 teeth breaking through her gums - I remember Cody and Jaima being this sick when their eye teeth were coming through. I am not feeling very well myself - I hope it is just from lack of sleep - John and I have had some stomach problems the last few days. I am sure I need to drink more water - that is my one weakness!
Cody and Khyle are in Nebraska. They are amazed at all of the cattle there - this is Khyle's dream to show at Aksarben so John and I are so happy that they are both going to enjoy it!

Cody left for Nebraska around 3:30. We all miss him already. He was ready to get out of here - and go show his steer - he has been working with "McLovin" since last November - that's a lot of time invested in steaks and hamburger - lol! This steer is more like a dog - he lays down just like one! So,he will show on Saturday, maybe go see Larry the Cable Guy and a rodeo. Will post more on the time he will be showing so we can all watch online!
John's parents got to Waverly last night - they are staying at Jim and Jenni's. Dad was here working on the combine with Jim all day and Grandma came to visit.
Jaiden is so close to walking! She stands up by herself longer than she has ever done before. She starts to take a step or two and then loses her confidence.
We went to MOPS group in Waverly yesterday morning - that was so much fun - they have daycare and all of the mom's get breakfast, do crafts, have devotions and a special speaker - I will start going to the twice monthly meetings. Jaiden did great in the nursery! Then, I took Jaiden to Judy Kahler's while I went to be a reading buddy at Jaima's school - it was a busy day for us girls!

I should have known better...

than to dust! I spent a good part of the day dusting and cleaning! I should have waited until November for my big fall cleanup! John was vacuuming the grain bins tonight and my WHOLE house is covered in dust and "bees wings" from corn. Every surface and floor is white with dust. SIGH.
Made roast and potatoes and then used some of the meat to make beef and noodles. Cody was my official taste tester for the beef and noodles since I had never made them before. Thanks for the recipe, Jenni!
Here is a recipe Mama Austa emailed me - sounds yummy!
5 MINUTE CHOCOLATE MUG CAKE
4 tablespoons cake flour or all purpose (plain, no self-rising)
4 tablespoons sugar
2 tablespoons baking cocoa
1 egg
3 tablespoons milk
3 tablespoons oil
3 tablespoons chocolate chips(optional)
A small dash of vanilla flavoring
1 coffee mug
Add dry ingredients to mug, and mix well. Add the egg and mix thoroughly. Pour in the milk and oil and mix well. Add the chocolate chips (if using) and vanilla flavoring, and mix again. Put your mug in the microwave and cook for 3 minutes at 1000 watts. The cake will rise over the top of the mug, but don't be alarmed! Allow to cool a little, and tip out onto a plate if desired. EAT! (this can serve 2 if you want to feel slightly more virtuous). And why is this the most dangerous cake recipe in the world? Because now we are all only 5 minutes away from chocolate cake at any time of the day or night!

Lunch with Jaiden

Sunday...day of rest

Jaima is finishing her Sunday school project here. She learned all about Noah and was impressed by all of the animals in the ark! She went to Sunday school twice - at Trinity while I taught the highschoolers and at Vineyard while Cody and I attended church. She loves art and reading - I can't believe how much her reading has improved!
Cody is doing well in school - I made him take American History and he seems to be enjoying that - I bet Grandma Austa will be proud! He will leave for Nebraska on Thursday - John might not be able to go as our new cattle building may be arriving at the end of the week!
John was very ill yesterday - fever, chills and a headache. He felt a little better this morning and is working at the landfill right now.
Jaiden is teething! Her molars are almost through - she took a very long nap this morning - I should have tried to mow the lawn but I never know how long she will sleep. She refuses to wear socks or shoes - pulls them off almost instantly - John remembers Jaima doing the same thing - then again, I never wear socks or shoes either - I am not setting a very good example!
I am going to look at paint colors for my kitchen - I am thinking a light yellow color would brighten it up in here. Most of my decor is John Deere! That makes John happy. I never thought I would have a JD kitchen. This is my favorite room in the house. I spend most of my day here.
It is quite cool and breezy today - my favorite weather - I can hear a few cows calling to their calves - the windchimes are making pretty music and all is well.

Saturday, September 20, 2008

Jaima and I went to the matinee of the Clone Wars movie this afternoon - we had so much fun - there were hardly any people in the theatre so we laughed and giggled and ate each other's candy! It was a great movie - I love anything Star Wars!

The dirt work is ready for one building out back - fence building is next!

Another busy week...

Cleaning Theo and Danielle's new house on Monday. Julie always brings out the best in me - LOL!
John, Cody, Wyatt and Conner helped cover Gerben's silage with tires and plastic. Zoom in, you can see John!
I am enjoying my morning this Saturday - I got most of the housework done this week so the girls and I can watch movies, maybe go to a few garage sales - whatever we feel like!
John, Cody and Randall Thomsen are out back clearing dirt because the new cattle buildings will probably be here next week! I will try and go out to take pictures soon.
Oscar, our newest kitty, got neutered and declawed this week. Poor baby, he is not feeling too well.
I had previously written that John's parents were coming this week, but it is next week - they will be here Wednesday evening. John and Cody leave for Nebraska sometime on Thursday.
Got my new keyboard - it was expensive to replace it - so from now on the laptop stays on my desk and not on the coffee table - Jaiden loves to pull the keys off! It types so well now, I feel like I could write a novel - maybe someday when I have time I will tell the story of Marjorie Murphy, the great pioneer woman! Who also happened to be my great grandmother...back to reality - there's a diaper to be changed, Jaima has a bloody nose and laundry to be folded - maybe writing a novel would be a welcome "vacation" - escaping into my dreams...hmmmm -

Does this count?

This is Wyatt - he stayed home sick today - isn't he the cutest?
Ian was here this afternoon while Julie went to Walmart to get groceries for Theo and Danielle - who arrived safe and sound from Holland this evening!
JaidenIlo - making a mess! She shakes her head now when we tell her, "No".
Jaima before her dance class tonight. She is learning how to tap and dance ballet.

I don't think this counts as walking - but it sure is fun to watch!

cleaning day

at 10:30, jaiden and i are going to tenhoeve's to clean theo and danielle's new house - they will be arriving tomorrow evening from the netherlands - so, julie and i will put the babies in the playpen and clean up the construction dust.

julie made apple pie and i had some for breakfast - am so glad God gave me a friend who can bake...i learned something from julie yesterday - Jesus says He is the Bread of Life - He is all I need - so when I want to eat when I am bored or upset, all I have to do is pray and know that I can break the cycle of eating to fill me up - I can fill up on prayer and my kids and john and my friends! Wonder why it took me so long to figure that out?

i called kevin to order a new keypad for my laptop - jaiden has figured out how to open it up and pull off the keys - i don't know why she is so obsessed with my laptop! it is so hard to type without shift keys, a half usable space bar and no ctrl key! i told jaidenilo that she will not be getting an allowance til she's 16!
jaiden loves to look out the windows at the cows and the dogs - she cries if i try and move her - she is as much in love with the cows as her daddy is
am picking cody up after school today so he can get his hair cut for the big cattle show on saturday - they are leaving for nebraska on thursday - john's parents are coming wednesday night so daddy don can help with chores - please pray for a safe trip for don and austa as they will be driving in from texas and it is a long haul. i will post the link soon to the show ring so we can all watch cody show online! i wish i could go - but it is a guy's trip i am told!
a new dishwasher will be arriving this afternoon - we sure go through appliances around here all at once! john attempted to catch up with the dishes for me while i was at class - but he says we have to have a dishwasher since we feed so many each day

Saturday, September 13, 2008

let's catch up

silly jaiden
jaima and kiki and nathan's puppy "scooter"
there will be no caps in the blog - jaiden pulled off the shift key on my laptop - or exclamation points haha
let's start with what's been going on - a timeline of sorts
last sunday - cody stepped on a nail while doing chores - it punctured his foot - he got an infection that night - we went to the dr. monday - he missed school - was on crutches because of the pain - took antibiotics - and is all better now
conner and wyatt come mon.-thurs. after school - they help with chores, we have a big supper, do homework and i take them home around 7
i got a new washer and dryer...the old dryer almost caught on fire - john had bought me a washer back in 2001 - i got my first washer on a thursday and he proposed on friday - coincidence that the appliance store was right next to the jewelry store? hmmm
jaiden is growing - has a few words she can say "ows" for cows, "night night" and "yes" - she repeats a lot of words we say and it catches us off guard
jaima is having a great time at school - she got all of her spelling words correct on her first test - she wants to be spelling bee champion like her mommy
the girls and i went garage sale-ing with julie in denver today - in the rain - we had a blast and got a lot of nice things - too bad there aren't more boy garage sales - right julie? pink everywhere!
youth group started wednesday - we had over 40 kids - served 22 pizzas - wow - God is at work all around us - and continues to answer prayers - i love these kids - we had a great time - and the energy was so contagious
tuesday - okay - the timeline is not in chronological order at all - we babysat noah - that was so much fun - cody and him became instant buddies - he kept turning the lights on and off and giggling - he also ate all of the animal crackers with cody while i took jaima to her first dance class
i am continuing to watch the markets, the political scene, and read many blogs to try and keep up - things are definitely happening in our world that can only be explained as part of God's plan...it's comforting to know that it all points to Christ's return AMEN

Missing...

my digital camera! In the words of my daddy,"I'm sure it didn't just get up and walk away all by itself!" So, no new pictures - but lots to share!
I started this at 8:30 this morning and now it is 8:30pm - where did the day go? Well, I took Cody to school, came home and had coffee, bathed Jaiden, did a load of laundry or two or three, made beds, ate breakfast, forgot to make lunch for John so we had PB and J, watched 101 Dalmations, made beef stew and mashed potatoes and shepherd's pie, took a nap and woke up when the kids got off the bus, made homemade salsa, fed the kids, went to a meeting at church, gave Jaima a bath and now I am going to leave and take Conner and Wyatt home!

Bathtime

Jaiden is really not feeling well. She is sleeping a lot (during the day, not at night!). Runny nose, cold in her eye, swollen gums and cheeks from teething...my poor baby! I gave her a nice warm bubble bath this morning and my happy little baby loved it - she crawled around and tried to eat the bubbles! In spite of being ill, she is still our happy baby!

Eating 'maters...

I love this picture!
Ashley brought tomatoes and cukes tonight - Jaiden grabbed one and ate the whole thing! What a mess - but she enjoyed it! (Note my new haircolor - haha) Poor baby is still teething and now has a runny nose and icky eyes - she is sleeping right now - hopefully for the night. I am watching the Republican Convention - wish I was Sarah Palin - she's young, fresh, intelligent, beautiful and a great orator. I hate politics. So no comments on that please lol! My daddy always said to keep who you vote for to yourself and I agree wholeheartedly - that's one of the many things I listened to him about - even though he may disagree!
Cody just got home from his nightly show steer chores - he'll go back tomorrow at 6:30am. He still hasn't had any homework this year (junior). I think his classes aren't hard enough lol!
Jaima's school called me today and asked me to lead a 4th grade book club that will meet once a month. I can't wait to start - we will meet the first Friday of each month. My mom and Aunt Kay always made sure I had great books to read. Now I get to share my love of reading...
Conner and Wyatt are still coming after school to 7pm - we are having a great time - I love those boys already!
Tomorrow, I need to go through Jaiden's clothes. I though she would be wearing 18months this fall - she's more like a 24 month/2T. So, Julie and I will try and go garage sale-ing this weekend if there are any good ones. Mom, if you're reading this - here's a good excuse for you to go! I have always loved a good garage sale- I can remember my first one - I bought a 1970's Barbie at a sale in the trailer behind my Auntie's. My mom gave me a quarter to buy it - I was probably 4. I still have that Malibu Barbie!

"What's this?"

This is Jaiden's first phrase. "This?" "What's this?" She was looking at a book with big brother last night and pointing to the animals and asking him. DeeDee is her biggest fan and bestest buddy. She follows him to his room. She sits in there while he plays guitar. She has a special smile just for him.

It is only 56 degrees this morning. This is not good corn growing weather! We pray for a late frost. If not, it's up to God! I love fall - because it means the end of allergies. Even with taking Claritin everyday I still have problems. Ragweed and corn pollen are my mortal enemies lol!

I am looking for some ground beef recipes. So, if you could email me some that would be great! kennedy993@yahoo.com

I survived...

getting Cael and Jaima ready for school this morning! Cael's mom is in Arkansas and Jim had to work so Cael and Emma stayed last night - I got them dressed, breakfasted, lunches made - out the door - then I checked the calendar - they didn't need lunches today - it's McDonald's day! I still want a t-shirt that says, "I Survived Hurricane CJ"!
Emma and Jaiden are watching Bob the Builder while I type. Every once in awhile I have to pull something out of Jaiden's mouth! I don't know where she finds this stuff!
Jaiden is cutting teeth - two of her molars are coming in - huge lumps on her bottom jaw - poor baby - lots of love, tylenol and cool food to chew on. The other day she wanted to nurse all day - didn't want food at all! She shows no signs of wanting to wean herself - so we will just let nature take it's course - besides, I am not paying for formula!
Last night, Bolin's and tenHoeve's came for dinner for Labor Day. We had a great time! Ashley made us some collard greens and sweet tea. We are Southern Belle's tried and true! We had grilled burgers, hashbrown casserole, baked beans, and yummy blondie bars made by Matt Bolin! It is so nice to have the house filled up with friends, kids and laughter!
My car is totally out of gas - I think someone siphoned it out while I was at Walmart yesterday afternoon - I know I had at least 1/2 tank. Am not sure what I am supposed to do about it - maybe file a police report? I am going to have to buy a locking gas cap. Times must be getting really tough around here - or the world's mess is starting to creep into my little neck of the woods...or maybe it's a farmer's wife's naivete.
