Family Time

Harvest is over. Snow is on the ground. Now we can spend our nights cuddled up as a family. Reading. Watching Daddy's car shows. Just being. I would highly recommend a big comfy sectional to hang out on! Don't worry about the laundry that needs folded. Or the dishes. Just enjoy these years. Having what I call a multi-generational family is tough. You make a lot of mistakes. But you can only look forward!

Mi Familia

This is the first time we have all been together -minus Cody- a glorious fall day celebrating each other! That's my Daddy in the back row.  The one with silver hair, totally caused by my brother and I! That's Chad next to Daddy.

Harvest is done and now field work is going strong. Hauling manure and making corn stalk bales, too.

I am already not liking the shortened days. I am in full Eeyore mode. It's a blustery day and winter is near. Time to hibernate!

My mama cleaned by rearranging furniture. My grandmas, too. It's funny how we are like that. Move all of the furniture. Dust. Clean. Put back. But never the same. And your husband comes home and trips over the couch. One time, I moved the bed and he came home really late after a meeting. He fell on the floor trying to get into what he thought was the bed. Ok, I confess, I did that one on purpose!

I bought new furniture this fall. It's easy to wipe off and pet hair can't stick to it. Ok, I really bought it because The Farmer bought a new manure spreader.

I'm rearranging again. Thinking about where the Christmas tree will go. Moving the TV. The lamps. The pictures. A fresh start. And a heritage I am proud of. And I love confusing friends when they come over. "Wasn't your couch over here last time?"

Yes, yes it was.

Every time I have an idea pop in my head to write about or a story to tell, something comes up and I never seem to find the time! Maybe now that I am hardly ever on Facebook I will make the time to share this way.

Our family has grown once again. We are now seven! AJ's little brother AA joined us in February. He is one. And a happy, smart and sassy little guy!

Planting is done and hay has been made. Maybe one of these days we will all be in the house at the same time for a meal.

Where has the new year gone?

My Dad called the other day to say he saw his first robin. It's a yearly competition. I haven't seen one yet. The yard is a big muddy mess. I scrubbed all of the floors today and then realized that the dogs were just going to get them dirty as soon as I let them back in.

John and the girls are road tripping today to get piglets to raise for the fair. I love that they got to spend ALL DAY together on the first day of Spring Break. AJ and I enjoyed our "quiet" time. Nothing with AJ is quiet, but we sure had a busy day!

Here it is March. Jaima turned 12. John and I have begun our 14th year together. We have a goal this year or reorganizing our priorities. I gave up Facebook for 40 days for Lent. I probably won't even go back on after that. I don't miss it at all. God, our marriage, our kids&house. Those are our priorities. If anything interferes with them, out it goes. Don't worry, farming is fourth on the list. We will never give that up!

Spring can't come soon enough. I long for thunderstorms and green grass.

Missing old friends

"Make new friends but keep the old. One is silver, the other gold."

This saying hung on my parent's wall for years. The past two days I have had encounters with people I really love and admire. The golden people in my life. They know the real me, and don't run away screaming. A vivid reminder that friends are for life. Oh, how I DO long for more time in my days to just be with friends. But in the real world, my world, family and farm come first. Sigh.

Starting the New Year out Right

Today I am linking to my favorite author and encourager, Ann Voskamp. She is the author of the book 1,000 Gifts: A Dare to live Fully Right Where You Are. (If you click on the title it will take you to Amazon. That's where I purchased it.) Ann has an AMAZING blog and a unique style of writing. To me, her words are pictures. And sometime she keeps writing without pausing to take a breath. Just like me. And I love it.

If you are looking for a jump start on life I suggest you start here: Her site has music playing, if it's too distracting, just click on the little pause button on the bottom left.

Take some time to explore her site. Make a plan. And try. Just breathe. The new year is a brand new blank page to write on. Joy.

Blessings to you from me and The Farmer
