Pondering The Stars

I get so caught up in the meaningless stuff in life and I get sidetracked. A lot. So, when I happen to glance up at the early morning sky and see the stars, I often draw a quick breath of amazement. How could I forget this glorious tapestry? Why would I miss THIS every single morning?! I look up, head tilted way back, spread my arms wide and twirl around and WORSHIP.

God told Abraham his descendants would be more than the stars in the sky.

The Magi followed the star to Bethlehem to find the Messiah. (Matthew 2:2, 9, 10)

Man has tried to read the stars for millennia. Yet who has ever really seen the true glory of God in all of His riches? Sure, we get a glimpse when we stare at the sky. But how can that be anything compared to the One who sees us? He sees us in our darkness and still has plans to bring us to the Light.

And God chose to reveal to us, His son, on a midnight clear, with stars brightly shining, to His chosen servant, Mary. She must have seen the stars that night.

 O Holy Night!
The stars are brightly shining
It is the night of the dear Savior's birth!
Long lay the world in sin and error pining
Till he appear'd and the soul felt its worth.
A thrill of hope the weary soul rejoices
For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn!

Fall on your knees
Oh hear the angel voices
Oh night divine
Oh night when Christ was born
Oh night divine
Oh night divine

Led by the light of Faith serenely beaming
With glowing hearts by His cradle we stand
So led by light of a star sweetly gleaming
Here come the wise men from Orient land
The King of Kings lay thus in lowly manger
In all our trials born to be our friend

Truly He taught us to love one another
His law is love and His gospel is peace
Chains shall He break for the slave is our brother
And in His name all oppression shall cease
Sweet hymns of joy in grateful chorus raise we,
Let all within us praise His holy name

When He appears, we notice, for the first time, just as I do when I take notice of the stars, That there is something more to this life. That there is hope. Peace.

Come, He says. Come and I will set you free. Come and see what I have planned for you since I created the stars. Come, my daughter, believe. Let me break the chains of your past. Let your soul rejoice as you watch the stars and welcome a new morning. For I have come to bring you a new life. I have come to love you. Look up. Look up at the stars. Dance with joy. For I have come.

Dance with the stars, Glory to the newborn King,
Thee Farm Wife

Journal it out:

Reflect on that starry night. When was the last time you took the time to purposefully look up and notice the wonder of the night sky? Go outside, alone if you can, and look. Count. Rejoice. Ponder.

Read Matthew Chapter 2. Can you imagine following a star hundreds of miles? What kind of faith would that take?
