Come Let Us Adore Him

It's Sunday night. Another week gone, and another started all at once. It's dark now, only a little past five. We all feel like we should be in bed. And yet, we know that soon, the Light will return. It's what we are all anticipating. The joy of that Holy Night.

It's the glow of the tree. The smiles of strangers. The hope that is all around. You can't help but feel that something's coming. Someone is coming.

Jesus. I whisper His name. Jesus. You are coming to this world, leaving your Heavenly throne and humbling yourself as a vulnerable little baby. This world full of hate, and war and disease...this awful thing we've created out of your Creation. And you came, not to condemn us, but to set us free.

And Mary kept all of these things hidden in her heart when they came to see you in the manger. Mary who had known the Holy Spirit. Mary who had to endure the shame and criticism of her people. Mary who trusted that this unknown child would be her Messiah.

Now the world knows your Name. Jesus. Not all believe. Not all admit that this season is all about you. Only you. It's always been you.

Emmanuel. God with us. Come.

Adoration of the Shepherds by Gerard van Honthorst, 1622

Read Luke 2:1-20

Journal: What would it have been like to walk a hundred miles and very pregnant? What would the rejection by the innkeeper have done to her trust and belief in her husband or even God? Why would she keep all of these feelings stored in her heart? (To remember later when he would offer Himself up as sacrifice for even her?)

Draw it out: Pray and ask God to show you what it must have been like. What that holy scene looked like? Consider thinking outside the lines of our Nativities that we put up each Christmas.

Will you share your creations? You may comment below or email me at kennedy993@yahoo.com.

May the joy and light of this Season give you strength and cause you to pause and reflect...

Love,
Thee Farm Wife
