Day Three: Reaping What You Sow

Harvest began today here on Thee Farm. The combine rolls over soybeans and dust flies. So much dust at times that it chokes and blinds. What was planted in April, came to life, and then withered and died so it could be harvested. Bounty. Only by Thee Amazing Grace of God.

The same applies to our daily lives.

2 Corinthians 9:6Consider this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously.

Now, there is no guarantee that when we plant the seed that it will ever grow. In fact, some had to replant seed that had gotten too much rain. There are insects. Too hot. Too cold. Not enough fertilizer. Soil that is too compacted. Weeds.

A Harvest Story
13 1-3 At about that same time Jesus left the house and sat on the beach. In no time at all a crowd gathered along the shoreline, forcing him to get into a boat. Using the boat as a pulpit, he addressed his congregation, telling stories.
3-8 “What do you make of this? A farmer planted seed. As he scattered the seed, some of it fell on the road, and birds ate it. Some fell in the gravel; it sprouted quickly but didn’t put down roots, so when the sun came up it withered just as quickly. Some fell in the weeds; as it came up, it was strangled by the weeds. Some fell on good earth, and produced a harvest beyond his wildest dreams.
“Are you listening to this? Really listening?”

Jesus spoke in parables. I find it striking that He asked if His audience was really listening. His Message was falling on deaf ears.

In our home, we often find ourselves as parents saying, "Are you listening to me?!" "Does anyone hear me?!" "Why can't you kids listen????!!!"

My message falls on ears that are full of rocks and weeds. I haven't preached truth into their little ears. Children obey your parents because it is good. Parents don't provoke your children to anger. Love the little children. All of these truths are little seeds planted in hearts.

I don't think it's too late to replant. Yes, fall harvest is going on right in my backyard. But the real Harvest? The time when I will know that the seeds of truth fell on them and grew and grew their faith.

Scatter your seeds intentionally. Take time to water them in the Word. Pull out the weeds of lies and deception. Pick up the rocks so they don't stumble. Shade them when there is too much sun and let the Son shine in their darkness.

Over the next few weeks I hope to walk through this planting and harvesting season with you. Taking back our homes from clutter. Our marriages from distractions. Our health by planning good meals and skipping the drive thru.

Are you listening to this? Really listening?~Jesus

Love,
Thee Farm Wife

Tiffany, I wish now that I had finished the series. Perhaps I shall now. It is good for the soul to know that another is helped and encouraged by my meandering words. Much love, Carolyn
